What exactly is Foldees?
Easy peasy! We’re a portal for designers to sell their greeting cards to the design-lovin’ masses like yourself! Every time you buy a card from Foldees, the designer gets a nice little royalty from us (US$0.10), so you can get that warm fuzzy feeling inside to know that you’re supporting someone’s work.
How does this site work?
We have a very cool bit of clever programming that accepts greeting card designs, and automatically converts them into formats that you can either download and print (available soon), or engage us to print for you. That means that you can buy cards made by designers all over the world, and designers all over the world can sell their designs to everyone else. Greetings from anyone, to everyone!
How is Foldees different?
First of all, if you check out our gallery, you'll see that the cards we offer are quite different from the ‘regular’ stuff that you get at the shops. This is because of the way we build our stock of designs, which is to hold various themed contests that encourage designers all around the world to "push the envelope". Pun intended.
We're still working on the download and print feature but once it's ready, you can simply purchase the designs as a download, and print the greeting card in the convenience of your home. We’ve done a bit of testing ourselves and we believe most people will be surprised by the quality of greeting card that can be achieved with the right paper, a beautiful design and a standard home printer.
If you’re not into the whole DIY thing, that’s fine too. Just engage us to print and send cards over to you or on your behalf directly to your recipient. All you need is to plan a little (to allow for postage time of 1-3 weeks) and we’ll take care of the rest.
Who owns Foldees?
Foldees is a wholly-owned property of Energon Sdn. Bhd. operating out of an incredibly cramped, but fun-loving office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Where is Foldees based?
We are based in Malaysia.
Design Submission & Royalties
Where do all these designs come from?
Everywhere! Our designs come from designers anywhere. We've had contest winners from Mexico, the US and of course, Malaysia. Anyone can submit a design, although we do reject designs that don’t meet basic requirements for quality, are explicit in nature, or violate copyrights that will get us in trouble with serious-looking guys in suits.
What criteria do you reject designs for?
We have a basic screening for quality, as well as to filter out any copyrighted material. Aside from that, we also do not allow naughty bits of biology, naughty language or anything else that we think might be inappropriate for our site. This also applies to moderation of comments.
How do I submit designs?
For our contests, participants are required to download our AI template, and design using solely flat-colour vector graphics with no rasters, gradients or transparencies. Go check out our Contest page here for the latest updates on current contests. Or signup on our site to be the first to know about the latest updates on the site, including any new contests!
Can anyone submit a design?
Yes! However, each design is only eligible for one contest. Please don’t make our lives more difficult by entering one design into more than one contest. However, multiple design submissions for other contests are more than welcome :)
Can’t people pirate my designs if they can download a PDF?
Technically, nothing is stopping them from doing so, even with our logos on the back. Greeting cards are transitional forms of entertainment - people aren’t likely to send the same card to more than one friend (or two if they’re reaaaallly cheap). However, if you notice any case of large scale pirating happening, do let us know at
legal@foldees.com and we will take appropriate action.
What software should I use to design the card?
We have tested the upload system using Adobe Illustrator CS1, CS2 and CS3. Older versions of Illustrator, as well as other software may work, but are not officially supported at this point in time. If you are experiencing problems with other software, do let us know by dropping us a mail at support@foldees.com and let's try to solve it together.
How do I know you’re not selling my designs without paying me?
We have a commitment to the designers to pay them for any instance their greeting card design is purchased and even if we give out free cards (On the site. We do give out promotional cards for marketing purposes on rare occasion for which we do not pay royalties for). If you would like to verify this, by all means, invite your friend to purchase your card and check your royalty balance at the end of the month. The royalty amounts are credited to your account at the end of each month, which you can then withdraw via cheque or postal order as you please If you would like to check on any royalty-related issues, please drop us an email at
design@foldees.com.
Do I get paid royalties for free cards given out during the ratings period of the contest?
Yes you do! We will pay you a royalty for every free greeting card (of your design) requested during the ratings period. However, it comes out of our own pockets, so please do not abuse this feature, or we might have to remove it in future.
How much do I get everytime someone buys my card?
Each time your design is purchased, you get US$0.10. You can withdraw your royalties at any time, although processing fees per withdrawal amount to US$2.00 to cover bank fees and postage.
Why are your royalties…
... so high?
Why aren’t you a nice one? Thank you! Our website would not be possible without designers like yourself, so we realize the importance of taking care of you, and making sure you get your fair cut.
... so stingy?
Oh well, can’t make everyone happy. To be honest, this is the starting point for us, as we are just starting out. However, as we grow bigger, and things become cheaper (go Wiki “Economies of Scale” for more info), we will constantly review our royalty structure to ensure you guys get a fair cut.
... just nice ?
Looks like we must’ve gotten something right! Anyways, trust that we won’t rest on our laurels. We will continue re-analysing our royalty structure, based on both market forces, as well as the feedback from you! If you have any comments you would like us to hear, do drop us a mail at
ideas@foldees.com

Our Printed Cards
How are your cards made?
Our greeting cards are digitally printed on gorgeous 280gsm environmentally friendly paper that some people swear are the most luxurious greeting cards they have ever held in their hands!! They come machine creased with an envelope ready for you to write on and give away. As we expand our network and grow the business, we will continuously strive to find paper suppliers that provide the most guilt-free quality paper stock to make the best cards in the universe.
What sort of paper do you use for your cards?
The exact name of the paper is Evolution 280gsm. This paper is approved by the Forest Stewardship Council (visit them at www.fsc.org) for being made from responsibly farmed trees, and harvested in accord with international human rights laws. This means that neither tree nor logger is being exploited (and yes, it does cost up to three times more than normal paper). This means that neither tree nor logger is being exploited (and yes, it does cost up to five times more than normal paper). We've also found it highly resistant to soda stains and birthday cake smudges.
I want to send a card direct to my friend but I don’t have my friend’s mailing address!
We have just the solution! It's called @ddress, and all you need is an email address to get a card to your friend. Curious? Click here to find out more.
Aside from that, one tip we can offer is to send it to his/her office. As long as you know where he/she works, addresses are usually easily available on the company's website. Plus, all his/her colleagues will also know how cool you are for sending one of our Foldees cards. Answer = VERY.
How quickly does the card get delivered?
This depends highly on where it’s being sent. Since we operate out of Malaysia, all cards are sent from here. Unless otherwise specified, all our mail is sent via Malaysian Post. From the date payment is received, the cards are usually printed and sent within four days. From there, delivery time ranges from as low as a day to up to 30 days, depending on distance and the efficiency of a particular country's postal services. For more information about delivery times,
OK, I’ve sent a Foldees greeting card to my friend. How will I know the card has arrived?
We're working on a system to address this question but we do not have this functionality up yet. Right now, you've got to check with your friend to see if their card has arrived.
What if my friend does not receive the card I have sent him?
We guarantee the card all the way until it gets to the post office. Once it’s there, guaranteed delivery gets a little tricky with regular postal mail. We're still looking at various premium delivery options to see which gives the you the best bang for your buck and are looking to implement the best options within the coming weeks. Meanwhile, if your card did not reach its recipient, do drop us an email at support@foldees.com.
Where are you sending the cards from?
Our cards are sent from Malaysia. This means that if you live in Malaysia, you get really, really cheap postage! Elsewhere, we currently offer standard post which is still very much affordable (the most you'll pay in postage is US$0.75 per card). However, we will be looking at localizing our facilities as soon as we're ready to expand our operations.
Can I track my sent cards once it’s been posted?
Unfortunately, at this point in time with standard post, tracking of orders is not possible. However, once we've implemented our premium delivery options, order tracking will be made available via the particular delivery service provider.
In the customized card, will the sample message that appears in the preview be in the final card?
The message that is part of the design (e.g. Happy Birthday/Muchos Gracias) will be included, but the sample message (usually a song lyric like "Bow Wow Wow Yippy Yo, Yippy Yay") will not. As much as we like those song lyrics, we wouldn't want to limit you guys to our songs :). When you open up the Customise & Send popup, you can enter your own personalised message onto the card in the Msg Line 1 and Msg Line 2 fields. Once you're done customising your card, click on the Generate Preview button to see how it will turn out.
How do I sign off with my photo/avatar?
First of all, you've got to sign up for a Foldees account to be able to upload a photo/avatar. Once you've signed up, upload a nice picture of yourself to sign off with (Make sure you check the Include Avatar box when you customize your card). You can do this by clicking on My Profile on the top right corner of any page. Then just make sure that your Use Avatar option is selected when you're customising your card.
I ordered a couple of cards a few days ago but only received one card yesterday. I thought they would be sent together so I should be able to receive them at once. What happened?
When we process your order, all the cards in your order list are processed together and eventually posted to you and/or your recipients on the same day. Blank cards are posted in packages of up to 8 cards per package. Customized cards are packaged and posted individually to your intended recipients. So depending on your order list, we may end up posting multiple packages. Although we post these packages on the same day, sometimes due to slight variances in the postal service, you may receive them on different days (and yes, we have recorded cases of this)
Payments & Refunds
What payment methods do you accept?
Right now, we’re only accepting payments by credit card via WorldPay and through prepaid cards MOLePoints (only for Malaysian customers).. We’re looking at integrating other payment methods so if you have a suggestion, drop us a line at support@foldees.com with the subject matter “Payment Method Suggestion”.
What the heck are MOLePoints?
They're a form of electronic currency that you can buy from 7-elevens and other physical kiosks here in Malaysia. They also have branches in Singapore, China and India, which we haven't integrated just yet... but SOON! For more information on MOLePoints, click here to visit their site.
What if I don’t have a credit card or any other of your accepted payment methods?
We are looking at some other methods of payment but right now, we’re accepting payment by credit card via WorldPay and MOLePoints (only for Malaysian customers). However, if you really really like a design and can’t wait to get your hands on it, drop us a line at support@foldees.com and we’ll see what we can do.
Is it safe to give you my credit card details?
Actually, your credit card details don’t come to us at all. As soon as you leave our Checkout page, your details go straight over to our much more reliable friends at WorldPay, which is an international credit card payment portal and part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. No, we wouldn’t trust ourselves with your credit cards either.
Why don’t you accept PayPal?
We’re looking into it right now. Watch this space.
Help! My transaction keeps getting refused by Worldpay! Why and what should I do?
Our friends over at Worldpay help to protect us from fraudulent purchases by automatically refusing transactions that appear high risk. However, the criteria that they use may sometimes unintentionally refuse genuine purchases like yours. If your transaction is refused, please e-mail us directly at support@foldees.com with your transaction details and we'll do our best to help.
Why are your prices listed in US Dollars (USD) and not Malaysian Ringgit (MYR)?
This was a conscious decision as we felt that most Malaysians who buy online stuff are used to dealing in US Dollars plus this will also help us to extend the sense of familiarity to international users, which we are keen to develop. We believe this gives our designers (both local and international) more exposure both ways. That's a good thing right?
What is your Refund Policy?
We guarantee the quality of our products and we will refund or replace your purchase if there is any defect on the product that you receive due to our negligence. Unfortunately, due to tiny variances inherent in the quality of postal services around the world, we can't guarantee timeliness of the delivery or against any damage that may occur during postage. However, being regular online purchasers ourselves, we understand your concerns and we'll help in any way we can. Do e-mail us at support@foldees.com if you run into any problems with your purchase and we’ll do our very best to help.

Coupons
What is a coupon?
Coupons are discounts offered on items on our website. Coupons are in the form of a randomly generated code that can be entered on the checkout page to claim the discount.
How do I obtain a coupon?
Some users may occasionally be offered coupons for promotions at our discretion. The easiest way to do this is to help us rate some cards! You may receive your coupon via an email, an on-site offer, or a mailed catalog or postcard. Or you can be really really nice to us and we might just give in to your demands!
Do I have to be logged in on Foldees to use a coupon?
Most coupons require you to be logged in to use your coupon. You can log in at anytime by using the log in boxes at the top right of any page. If a coupon doesn't require you to be logged in to use it, we'll let you know when you receive the coupon.
Can I use more than one coupon at a time?
No, only one coupon may be used per purchase.
Can I give my coupon to someone else?
Awww, aren't you a nice person? Most coupons may be used only by the user it was emailed to, although we do also have certain coupons which can be shared. If the coupon is tied to your user account on Foldees, the coupon may only be redeemed by you when you're logged in under that particular account. Therefore, it cannot be resold or transferred in any way. If the coupon can be shared, we will identify it as shareable when you receive the coupon.
How do I redeem a Coupon?
At the Checkout page, if you've got a valid coupon, simply enter it into the "Coupon Code" field and click the "Use & Update Cart" button to use the coupon. Voila! The discount will be immediately applied to your shopping cart.
Can I use my coupon with any item?
When you receive the coupon, the type of item you can use the coupon for will also be specified. Some coupons can only be used for specific items (such as Customized Cards or free postage), whereas some coupons are value-based and can be used to discount the value of items purchased.
If I don't have a credit card or other forms of payment, can I still use my coupon?
If the total amount of your purchase is zero or less after applying the coupon discount, you don't need a credit card to complete the purchase. However, certain coupons may have a minimum purchase amount required. Also, if your coupon doesn't cover the whole transaction amount, the remaining balance has to be paid with your credit card.
Do coupons expire?
Yes, most coupons expire. The expiration date, if one exists, will be made known when you receive the coupon.
Our Greeting Card Design Contests
What's the current contest that's running?
All relevant information relating to the current contest can be found at www.foldees.com/contest.
When does the contest start/end?
The contest period is split into a Submissions Period and Ratings Period, the dates of which are specified at www.foldees.com/contest. The contest starts on the first day of the Submissions Period and ends once the winners are announced. Greeting card design submissions can only be sent in during the Submissions Period, after which the designs will be voted on by the public during the Ratings Period.
Who can join in the contest?
Anyone, anywhere in the world (although a basic road transport system and postal service would help in getting those prizes to you if you win)! Our contests are open to ANYONE 13 years of age or older as of the 1st day of the Submissions Period. We have no restrictions based on location, gender, hair colour, height, body odour etc.
When should I submit my design?
You can submit your design anytime during the Submissions Period BUT we suggest NOT TO LEAVE IT TO THE LAST MINUTE! This is because submissions to Foldees are a consultative process. We will check if your design meets our criteria and if for any reason your design cannot be accepted, we will inform you as soon as possible in order to give you time to fix it. We will also advise you with regards to theme, prose, graphics and grammar to improve your card. If you submit at the LAST MINUTE, you may not have enough time to fix your submission and therefore, may be disqualified from the contest if you miss the deadline.
How do you determine if a greeting card design violates any copyrights?
Our basic stand is that "Parody is an authorized use of copyrighted material, but satire is not". A Parody is something that used a property (e.g. star wars) to make fun of itself within that universe. A Satire, on the other hand, is something that uses a property (e.g. star wars) to comment on a societal situation that doesn't involve that character, usually with an intention other than humour (although it might be funny). We know it's a little confusing so for the time being, as long as it's tasteful AND funny or witty, and non-political, we'd probably let it by. For a more detailed explanation on the difference between Parody and Satire, see our blog post on it here. However, we will definitely not accept cards that directly copy previously drawn design/artwork such as movie stills, posters, existing comic artwork etc. (to be safe, do not live trace any artwork that you did not produce yourself) .
Why do I have to sign up to rate cards?
Because we want the rating process to be fair, each user is only allowed to rate each card once. We need you to register so we can keep track of which users have rated which cards and also to enable us to give you a little bonus if you help us to rate all the entries. All your ratings will be kept private.
Why should I rate cards?
Because we’re indecisive. We need your help in picking a winner for our contest because we want to know what YOU like! You’ll also be providing useful feedback, not only to the designer of the card, but also to future users of the site. On top of that, just by rating a card for us, you'll be getting a free customised card to send to the person of your liking (no other purchases necessary!).
When can I buy the cards?
Cards are available for purchase starting from the Ratings Period of that contest in which the card is entered. Check out our main gallery to purchase blank or customized cards to send to your loved ones.
I submitted a design during the Submissions Period but I don't see it on the website? Why????
Sorry, there may be various reasons why your design has not been uploaded to the website. Some of the common reasons may deal with issues of quality, not submitting according to contest theme/template specifications, copyright violation, offensiveness etc. If you would like more details on why your particular submission didn’t make it, drop us a mail at design@foldees.com with your email, username and design title.
Why can’t I rate just one specific card?
We believe that every card deserves a fair chance. Because of this, we encourage users to rate all cards on the site, not just those from designers they know. As a reward, we give you a free Customised card of your choice AND pay for the postage even. That's pretty good right?
Hey, my description/design/avatar is not what I submitted or is wrong!!
If your design has been uploaded for rating, you can edit the title, description and tags of your design at any time from the My Designs page, the link at the top right corner of the webpage. You can also change your avatar at any time on the My Profile page. However, if there are any problems with your design, please e-mail us at design@foldees.com. You may also change your description or avatar at any time by clicking on the My Designs panel on the top right of the page (The My Designs link is only visible if you have submitted an approved contest design).
I'm not a designer, is there anything for me on the website?
Yeah sure! You can buy cards in our gallery! Also, we're a naturally undecisive bunch so we always need help in picking a winner for our contest by rating the submitted greeting card designs during the Ratings Period.
